Has anyone ever had one that has actually lived for more than a month? I purchased a Chinese dwarf hamster for my daughter a month ago and it died. This is her second one, and I'm wonder how long this one will last! They told me at the pet shop to buy the Chinese dwarf because they are less likely to bite. It appears they are less likely to live too!!!!!!

Maybe that is why they are less likely to bite. Don't live long enough.

You should buy two- a boy and a girl hamster. Have a talk with the boy and your hamster shortage will change, and YOU can sell hamsters.

It's a hamster Alfred, not a rat!

....how long's the tail? ......anyways, make sure you get the animal checked regularly, and put it on a excercise routine.......sometimes they bite because they are not used to you yet, give it a treat when handling.......

OK folks don't buy hamsters at PETCO! My daughter had 2 Chinese dwarf hamsters from there and they both lived about a month! Go to Gittlers. I bought a beautiful, male, teddy bear hamster there months ago and he is doing great. He hasn't bit my daughter either! Seriously, I will never buy any type of critter at PETCO again, because they die quickly. Gittlers actually breeds the hamsters they sell. The hamsters at PETCO come from God only knows where.
