One of the few politicians I actually like. For the most part I'm conservative and in sympathy with the Tea Partiers, but to me it makes no good sense to toss out one like MCcain. He's a good man overall and served us well, imho.

Why don't we try to respect one another.

We had our chance, but we wanted CHANGE. Anyone see any change happen?

yeah, but in what campaign in the last 100 or years ago has not shouted " we're gonna change the way Washington does business" or some variation thereof?

McCains wife is worth 100's of millions, John himself, just a few mills. I read on celebritynetworth.com one time that she made a hundred million brewing beer. somethin like that. John Kerry married a few hundred Million  as well.  I guess they ain't in it for the money, THAT POWER GOT TO BE ADDICTING!

Yep.  Health care; regulation of banking.  Whether or not you agree, they are fundamental changes.

What happened to the false charges that he would introduce gun control legislation?  Maybe next year?

I never echoed those charges. His position was made clear in his campaign when he stated he would not because he knew he did not have the votes. In other words, I would if I could but I can't so I won't

Give him a disaster and watch him give it a try.

I never heard that, Red.  I heard him deny it, but I never heard anything resembling "I would if I could".  But I could be wrong on that, of course.  Sometimes we hear what we want to hear and don't hear what we don't want to hear.

I'm sure that there are opposing views, but this one is quite recent and evaluates his first year in office in regards to gun control.

When you have to outspend your opponent 10 to 1 in dollars to win, well you better hope you remember what it was you said to get yourself re-elected.

McCain changed his stance on so many things to win this primary that it is hard to tell what he is gonna say to win the actually seat.

so, he's rich, so are the Kennedys.
Not having to worry about sustenance, then such folks are free to serve the public if they so choose, more so than the average citizen.

Being rich imho doesn't in and of itself make one a bad public servant-- depends a lot on how they got rich.

true, but I still like and admire him.
I think he will go back to his core values, though I think he has seen the light on immigration and truly has changed on that.
I have had the honor of meeting him in person several times through a dear departed good friend, and am convinced he is a good man and good public servant-- I understand how you might have reservations, but compare him to the others-- he must come out ahead, no, even in your view?

What core values?

The man has flipped and flopped so many times how can you even know what his core values are?

He did a lot of flipping just to win this primary, that should not make you warm and fuzzy that should scare the crap out of you.

McCain is a longtime senator, he has power and privledge that longevity can bring. He can do as much good in the senate as he could if he were president. He can't write EO's, but he can swing votes and bring legislation to the floor and get it passed. He, by virtue of seniority, has enough power to effect change. IT'S SAFE TO JUDGE HIM NOW. AS A SENATOR AND AGENT OF CHANGE OF COURSE.  BUT WAIT, CONSERVATIVES, BY DEFINITION, OBJECT TO CHANGE. THATS THEIR CORE IDENTITY. OPPOSED TO CHANGE, RELUCTANT TO CHANGE. AS YOGI BERRA WOULD SAY, "AND YOU CAN LOOK IT UP.

I did not say he said I would if I could. But he did say he would not because there wasn't enough votes to do so.

TO ME that says I would if I could.

Big whoop, he lies, steal, and is just as corrupt as any long time senator can get.
He is a piece of the old system that must go.
