Obama strongly supports Mosque near Ground Zero.

I went from giving him a chance and rooting for him to total disdain for him.

I would like to know why? Isn't he protecting our freedom of religion ...or is it freedom of only your religion or one you can agree with.
I could see it being disrespectful if they were putting the mosque right next door or in the new world trade center building ...but it's two blocks down the road and if you've ever been to New York City (which I imagine you have because you seem well traveled) two city blocks are really freaking huge there!
We can't hate one religion whatfor some extremists that do stupid stuff or we would have to hate Christianity as well ...people who kill in the name of Jesus, people who kill abortion doctors, the Westboro Church ...now I'm sure we can agree that those are people to take Christianity to a dark place ...but not everyone who practices Christianity believes in protesting at solder funerals, killing others, and other goofy stuff that those mentally defective brain washed people do. There are fine, god fearing, peace loving good Christians and Jews out there...So, believe it or not there are good Muslims out there!
I'm sure many Muslims are sickened by what the 9/11 attackers did and would never support such a thing! I'm sure you can agree that majority of Christians and do not support what the Westboro church does, snake handling churches, or any of what the morbid churches do ...correct???
When it come down to it ...people are people ...regardless of race, color, or creed! Some are sane ...some are not!

The mosque will be located approximately 200 yards from Ground Zero....way too close IMO.

My problem with the muslims is the way they celebrated in their streets on 9/11. That was not a show of contempt for the radicals that brought the towers down.
Way too many muslims would kill you in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it.

You may feel that it's too close, but would you really want the government to dictate which religions may or may not build places of worship on private property?

There are a whole lot of other people of varying faiths who would also kill in a heartbeat if they thought they could get away with it. It happens every day. Muslims are no particular exception.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

There are a whole lot of people who would like to force us all to say "Merry Christmas" but seem to have trouble with the concept that freedom of religion encompasses more than their religion alone.

We have had this discussion before. The can be no law but schools continually deny staff and students the freedom of expression of religion.

You have a point. But, IMO the incidence of radicals in the muslim world and the open acceptance of the killings are more prevalent. Few kill others solely because they disagree with them. Few celebrate those killings.

I've looked into several links on the subject ..and all of the say two blocks
Quoted from the link above
Quote
The White House had not previously taken a stand on the mosque, which would be part of a $100 million Islamic community center two blocks from where nearly 3,000 people perished when hijacked jetliners slammed into the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001. Press secretary Robert Gibbs had insisted it was a local matter.
I have yet to see one New York City block that is only 200 yards ...trust me I know ...my fat ass walked them and ended up getting a cab after walking three blocks...lol

A lot of them had no clue of what they were cheering for the lady that was cheering in one CNN news footage was offered cake her name was Nawal Abdel Fatah.
I've even see soldiers take advantage of people in Iraq and Afghanistan because of cultural and language barriers ..one sign I seen was "Safer in Iraq than with Michael Jackson" with the kids putting their thumbs up and all smiles ...they're not used to the media like we are...just like a jackass in the background when a news reporter is giving a sad story ...put out a camera and people will do all kinds of thing to be noticed.

No that's not entirely true ...look at history ...Ireland, England, Germany and on and on.

This is the footage that you were talking about correct?
You can see the guy in the white shirt egging people on and it was the most vulnerable population that he was getting to cheer ..children and elderly...half of them look clueless ...and children (the ones on there look no older than 10 years old) will cheer for just about anything you tell them too...if WJAC shows up at my house during a disaster and I tell my children to cheer and wave to the camera...they'll do it! Just like when you say smile and wave to the camera ...most people will and have no clue of what the hell they're smiling and waving for!
The children were being manipulated and had no clue!

Let me be clear-- I do not think THE GOVERNMENT should block the Mosque in any way, assuming it meets prevailing zoning and use customs, regs, etc. But, I do not expect the PREZ to support it either, I would expect THE GREAT UNITER to stress the view that the Mosque is insensitive to the majority of Americans and that many even perceive it much worse - i.e, victim relatives, etc.
I would hope and expect that NO ONE would supply their labor and other services to build it.
I also think that some of the "more tolerant of us" should look a little deeper into the Mosque- the funding, the fact that very, very few Muslims even live in that area, ( most live across the bridge in Brooklyn, it will be quite a drive through NYC traffic to go to their place of worship") and the history of Muslims buliding Mosques over what they consider as "conquered" territory.
Say, could we build a church next to Mecca? Would that be ok?

who wants to force us to say Merry Christmas? I thought that debate was about some seeking to PROHIBIT people from saying it?

so, what are you saying, that Muslims can get away with it?
I'd like to see a death toll comparison ---- in Modern Times---- say the last 100 years or so-- of deaths caused by religious causes.
Which one do you think would lead?
