Hi All,

Just a thread to talk about Unsolved Murders and other crimes that happened in Johnstown.

One that comes to my mind, that still boggles me to this day is the murder of Beth Ann Bodenschatz.
To jog your memory Beth Ann was murdered in her Croyle Township home on Jan. 12th 1996. She was 36-years-old and the mother of four. I didn’t know her personally, but I still wonder about her mysterious death! I also feel for her family to not know who killed her, that must weigh heavy on their hearts every day, I would imagine.

Yes another unsolved murder. Just makes you wonder why though? What makes these cases so hard to solve? It's been years and still nothing!

Makes me believe these 2 cases were contracted! You know, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap!

I actually went to school with one of her kids. I can't imagine how she and the rest of her family must be feeling. What a shame.  Embarrassed

This is just my opinion, but I have a feeling this will be another Dawson murder case. Where I'm sure most close to it know who did it, but it's just a matter of getting the evidence to stack up.

You are probably right in the Horner case. But I don't believe in the case of Beth Ann Bodenschatz, there were ever any suspects mentioned?

I heard a few local rumors about Beth Ann Bodenschatz, but I don't think there was ever a suspect announced.

I meant the comparison to be between the Dawson and Horner cases. The Bodenschatz case really does seem like a true mystery. Wasn't one of her children there during the murder? And, wasn't the doctor she worked for at one time a suspect or at least someone that was questioned several times. I can't remember too much about it.

http://www.tribune-democrat.com/local/local_story_088231140.html

A clip from this article: The investigation through the years has included scores of interviews and even a search in 2003 by the state police, assisted by emergency management personnel and state forestry workers, for the murder weapon, believed to be a .40-caliber Glock handgun.

On the day of the murder, police said five spent .40-caliber cartridges were found in the bedroom where she was killed and one live round was beneath her body.

In 2001, the police disclosed for the first time that the intruder who shot and killed Bodenschatz had stolen her 2-carat diamond ring. They even released a photo of a replica of it in hopes the original would be recognized.

Bodenschatz has been described as a family-oriented working mom, who was a registered nurse in the ambulatory surgery department at the former Lee Hospital in Johnstown.

She and her husband, Michael, were married in August 1981, and raised a family of, eventually, four children.

They first lived in Summerhill before building their home on New Germany Road less than a mile from her parents’ home.

This is the first time they mentioned the shooter stole her ring! Why did it take them that long to disclose that information to the public? Hmmmmmmmm. And yes I do believe one of her children was at home at the time of the shooting or it could have been just after the shooting so don’t quote me on that one. It’s hard to find the old articles about this case, but I will keep looking.

I think the Horner case turned out much like the OJ fiasco. That guy probably did it and they couldnt make it stick. I hope someday they can find Beth Anns killer. I know people who knew her and said she was a wonderful person.
