Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike

A couple of these tunnels are just outside of Breezewood , they have been abandoned since about 1968. I visited them about a year back, pretty cool stuff. One of the tunnels was used in the filming of a post apocalyptic film “The Road”

Thanks yoyo. As a kid I just loved to go through the tunnels.

The one is quite long I believe almost a mile. They are awesome Red, we take the bikes and go down there on sundays for a leisure day, great scenery. Puts you in awe of God and all he created us to be able to do.

Which tunnel does the bike trail go thru? I think you can travel it to DC?

Still haven't heeded your own advice I see. Well some are more thick headed than others.

Here's another page full of information and links on the abandoned tunnels:

I've always wanted to visit these sites for some reason. FYI, I've been told by some who have been there to wear a hog leg to deal with any pesky snakes you might encounter.

If this was a joke i don't get it
, If you are serious...
The Paw Paw tunnel is on the C&O canal which starts/ends in Cumberland MD and does run 184 miles into Georgetown. As i am sure some know, they are tying this trail in with the "Great Allegheny Passage"(not sure when they started calling it that).

No, no joke. I know I can ride from Pittsburgh to DC on the bike/walking trail. I was not sure of the path it took, but thought it went thru some tunnels. (PA turnpike? maybe not) Thanks for the info, i will check it out.

No, not the PA Turnpike abandoned tunnels--
Big Savage Tunnel in Somerset County is the one the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail goes through.
