I'm 48 years of age. I have been a "Born again Christian". It's taken me 47 years to come to realize there is no heaven or hell. I do believe in God, just not one that would sentence me to eternal damnation for sinning a few hundred times. Church is for the weak. Ok let me have it.      

Well, e-man, perhaps you need to check out a different church than the one you were going to...

Personally, I do not believe God condemns us to eternal damnation...now before you all get yer feathers ruffled, let me elaborate...God doesn't condemn. We condemn ourselves. God doesn't punish, we punish ourselves. I believe there is a heaven, and I believe there is a hell. But both will someday cease to exist--there will be a new heaven. Hell will be thrown into the lake of fire (whatever that might be).

Scriptures support this:

John 5:24 (Jesus himself is talking) "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Romans 8:1-2--Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Don't let people scare you.


As for "church" being for the "weak", well, yes it is. I am weak. I sin daily. In order to become strong, one must first be weak, right?

 I believe in an afterlife. I  think your energy (soul) may continue to exist in some form. But surely not in Hell. That again was another scare tactic used by the church to scare everyone into being ruley and pay their taxes.

I believe that it is the content of your heart, not the words that you speak.

Jesus said "it is not what you put into your mouth that will harm you but what comes out of it." That means there is weight to your words and you will be held accountable for everything you spoke. 

Jesus also said "your deeds will not be your judge."

Jesus also said that "You must be reborn again of the spirit.  Those who are not born again will never enter the kingdom of God."

No E-man it isn't.  Your heart can contain goodness but be absent of the holy spirit.  Without the spirit you won't be allowed through the gates of heaven but rather you are to cast into the pit of fire.

Oprah believes it is the content of your heart and not your faith in Jesus that will be your judge. 
It is too bad she feels this way because she does try to do the right thing, of course the road to hell is paved with trillions and trillions of good intentions.
You have to believe, you have to have faith, you have to be comfortable with it.  Most people think organized religion is a farce and in many aspects it can be.  To those that just go and sit in church and never actually read the Bible themselves, those are the ones I fear for the most.  Those are the truly lost for they are relying on another for their relationship with God.  They think that if they live how they want and then go to church on the man in the front is gonna ensure they get to Heaven.  Don't work that way, he/she  could in fact being going to hell just for leading the others astray.   Many who stand in front of those churches don't really believe what they preach.  So how on earth could they show you the way, when they themselves have no idea which way it is?
