In order to draw a crowd, you need controversy. I honestly don't know if that's the intent, but it sure fits. First you make a commercial using his deceased fathers voice, then you have the PGA chairman berate him. To me it seems like a pretty classic case of creating a controversy to generate interest because Golf was in a serious slump before he came along and without him the slump may come back. Just my opinion, but who really knows.
