http://www.tribdem.com/local/local_story_350231943.htmlI posted this as a comment on tribdem.com yesterday. They haven’t posted it 24 hours later. I guess my info doesn’t fit there grand plan so I’ll try again and put it on johnstownbuzz.com!
What has council offered to give up? If you are SO interested in helping the city survive, what about the $2,200 you make? $2,200 x 9 = $19,800. “Small change” in the budget, but EVERY LITTLE bit will help! How bout it Frank J? Are you willing to give those peanuts up? Hell, you make enough at the trough you feed at off of insurance companies and the govt. That would cover about 1/3 of the annual fuel budget. Jack, you say you are worried about a few vehicles going home at night. Are you kidding me? The Public Works Director has 2 secretaries. The fire chief has one and how many secretaries (clerks) are in the Police Dept? Are these “ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY” positions? What about the police captain? Put him back on the street! How many duties in the finance office could be combined? Here’s some info for you. They invented computer programs that handle payroll. There is NO need for a ledger and crayons. What about Bruce’s cronie. You know, the guy he hired without consulting council? What is he giving up? I honestly don’t see ANY reason that we need a FINANCE DIRECTOR. Give the people interviewing for the City Manager position a 5th grade math test and you can eliminate the finance director position and place the finance dept. under the City Manager. By the way, we had a guy that worked math like you Jack and he was fired a few years ago because he couldn’t add. Now you look like you were taught by him. Where did you get your numbers? Seems that the newly elected council members have a completely different set of numbers, but you don’t want to hear that!
What about Gleason? Why does the city need an insurance broker? With a little thing like the “internet”, anyone with access could contact someone to provide quotes to provide Highmark with a little competition. Ann, can you answer this one? Wow, maybe a conflict of interest. I know, because someone’s pocket is getting filled! Or is it that the Gleason’s are running the city and you are their voice? Either way Ann, looks like you need to face the music.
While we are talking about Ann, what about all of your statements of not cutting public safety. I guess you got sucked in to Jack’s web of deceit. He’s just an old political hack that has an axe to grind and is using his position of POWER to swing it.
You are eliminating a mechanic’s position. The guy that is being terminated is one of the best mechanic’s ever to work there. The Public Works Director biggest task everyday is to find ways to have his dept. get out of work. His answer is always “that’s not our problem”. Guess what Darby, if it is inside the boundaries of the city, it IS your problem. I haven’t seen you do anything productive in 20+ years!
What has the recovery team done in 17 years? They gutted union contracts without negotiating in good faith. They hide behind some BS game that they use to change the rules every time they start to lose the game. $90,000 a year x 17 years= 1,530,000 FOR WHAT? Hey, look at that! Tell me one thing other than the commuter tax and gutting the work force that Act 47 has done for Johnstown. Get rid of Roberts and you can save a ton of money. If the city comes out of 47, Jim Roberts loses money. Hell in 3 more years he’ll probably request or has been promised some sweetheart “city funded” pension.
$1,530,000 in the hole? I highly doubt it. The city is the new Enron. You just “cook the books” to show what you want them to show. Its been going on for years and this budget is NO different!
